Good Lineup. Good Play. Good Times. (Plus Pie.)
With only six players, this week's game offered plenty of both playtime and entertainment. Two players finished double-digits up: Ray Gun, whose top-quality play earned him his first place finish; and your Padre, who quietly accumulated enough pots to finish second. Two players finished down in double-digits: the Dude, who spent the night being abused by his own too-good-to-fold cards; and Our Guest, who lost track of his buy-ins and made the loser's trophy irrelevant. In the middle on the night, our host Speed won a dollar, and a two dollar derelict pot lifted the Grateful Dead to two in the black. Batman provided pumpkin pie, and Speed shared whiskey and early Halloween candy. In the end, everyone in this great group brought it.

Mighty Pretty Sunset
As the sun set on the last good days of deck weather, seven regulars gathered around the Rowe Memorial to finish within four dollars in either direction—pretty impressive given the number of big hands and big pots. In one huge contest, a straight flush wheel by Mitch Barnes shot down quads and full houses. The only player in double-digits was Our Guest, who lost eleven and made the loser's trophy irrelevant. Choo-choo pocketed a two-dollar D. A country music "Cowpoke-r Playlist" (celebrating the Dude's return to first on the Chart) had the table, including Speed, tapping their toes and singing along. In the cooling evening, the contented cowhands pondered next week's roundup and a return to other, much-loved pastures.

The Prophecy! The Prophecy!
Your Padre has long been predicting the return of Galactus, the rise of Speed, and a competitive chart. Last week, Galactus was the only double-digit winner; this week, it was Speed. The Padre took the loser's trophy, and the Dude returned to first on the chart. A five dollar discrepancy on the night was remedied when your Padre agreed to mark himself twenty-five instead of twenty on. He ended up fifteen down but would have been a double-digit loser anyway. Mitch played very well when he had cards, but his cards, too, were a problem. Still, he did collect a two dollar derelict pot. In the end, Tuesday night remains "the best entertainment value in town," and "the Prophecy is fulfilled!"

The Fickle Finger of Fate
It's fun to imagine the cards are playing favorites— and even more entertaining to imagine they hate us. They are not and do not, but this week's game really brought the entertainment. Big leads moved from Rocket to Our Guest to Ray Gun, who, despite a solid night of play, had what could have been a huge chart gain undercut by a streak of unbeatable hands for the Dude and a big Red River half-pot for your Padre. Ray Gun, though, earned his double-digit win, and the Doctor's thirteen dollar loss won Doom a trophy. The two dollar derelict pot doubled Dude's positive finish. Amid the excitement we remember that the melodramatic highs and lows are the point, not a problem. If you doubt it, just listen to the raucous complaints when a guest deals a derelict hand too quickly or without a narration. We're louder than that nighttime sky full of geese. Beautiful.

Day of the Lord
The Lord of Lowball returned—in glory. With good cards and good play, the Lord, our Professor X, the Spider, finished first, the only player in double digits. He graciously dealt the Doctor a four dollar derelict, nearly bringing the good doctor to even. Mitch could not overcome his horrible cards. He trophied at just seven down. Nonetheless, the return of the Lord made for a truly enjoyable evening.
